Our team
Katie Dunbar DO MPH
Dr. Katie Dunbar, DO, MPH is the co-founder and lead physician of Prairie Rose Family Medicine. Dr. Dunbar has practiced full-spectrum family medicine for 10 years. She earned her Master of Public Health degree in Epidemiology and Maternal, Child, Family Health from the University of Iowa and her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Touro University–Nevada.
Dr. Dunbar completed her Family Medicine residency at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio — a Level 1 Trauma Center — and at Siouxland Medical Education Foundation in Sioux City, Iowa. This rigorous training laid the foundation for her work in full-spectrum Family Medicine with Obstetrics, which she practiced in Madison, Wisconsin. She still fondly remembers the patients she had the privilege to care for there.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Dunbar relocated to Des Moines to be closer to family and became the only Family Medicine physician in Indianola, Iowa with a primary focus on women’s health. She treasures the connections she built with her patients in that community.
In 2022, Dr. Dunbar returned home to Cedar Rapids — a longtime dream — where she has since laid down roots and opened Prairie Rose Family Medicine. Dr. Dunbar, and her Husband Scott, have a beautiful 18-month-old Son, 2 Golden Retrievers, multiple kitties, and fish. She enjoys spending time with her family and close friends, Pilates with her long-time dance coach Kamryn Shada, ballroom dance styles, gardening, attempting to cook, great books, and attempting to complete her multiple cross-stitch projects. She is passionate about providing thoughtful, evidence-based care rooted in genuine relationships and a deep commitment to her patients’ well-being.
